Reginald Cloyd III [1] is an associate in the Commercial Litigation and Business Disputes Practice Group. Reggie has a broad range of experience representing individual and corporate clients in complex litigation matters, insurance coverage, local government and homeowner association matters.
He has advised and defended clients with respect to claims for breach of contract, consumer fraud, negligence, and other torts. Reggie has also worked on intellectual property, bankruptcy, and trust and estate matters. He has experience in all phases of litigation, including drafting and responding to discovery, arguing dispositive motions, and participating in settlement conferences.
Reggie received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law with Cum Laude honors and currently works out of Tressler’s Chicago Office.

What was your first job?
- Busser at Five Star Family Restaurant in Danville, IL.
Do you have any hidden talents and/or unique hobbies?
- I can squat over 550 lbs and can bake the best lemon cake ever.
What is on your bucket list?
- Tour every NFL stadium
- Win a BBQ competition in Illinois and South Carolina
- Visit the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia
Why did you decide to become an attorney?
- I always thought I was going to be Illinois State trooper. However, I suffered numerous injuries playing college football and didn’t think I could pass a fitness test. Thereafter, one of my college football teammates talked me into taking the LSAT.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
- I cover court hearings in the morning between 10:30-11a.m. Once I return to the office, I respond to emails and call clients to update them on the hearings. I usually spend my afternoons drafting and responding to pleadings and/or discovery.
What do you like most about Tressler?
- We have the best legal secretaries and paralegals in the country.
What are you most proud of, professionally and/or personally?
- I’m 3-1 in all of my fantasy football leagues. (I will update this in 10 weeks…haha)
Please tell us a unique story.
- Prior to law school, I worked as a substitute teacher. One day, I bought my class a few boxes of powdered donuts. While passing the donuts around the classroom, one of my favorite students grabbed a box and started playing “hot potato” with the other students. While reaching for the box, the powder exploded in my face. For the remainder of the year, I was known as the “powdered donut” teacher.
